Kids In Need Minnesota’s primary objective is to provide necessary school supplies to Minnesota students who would otherwise go without. Every student deserves an equal opportunity to learn and succeed in the classroom, and we strive to ensure they have the essential materials to do so through 3 initiatives:
Teacher Resource Center
Located in Roseville, our Resource Center offers the opportunity for teachers from eligible Twin Cities Metro Area schools to shop twice per academic year for FREE school supplies to use in their classroom. In late summer and again in early January, teachers receive an email invitation to schedule a shopping appointment. During the 2017/2018 academic year, 3,300 teachers utilized our Resource Center, obtaining an average of $456 in FREE school supplies per visit. Our Teacher Resource Center is similar to any typical retail environment, minus the cash register.
Outstate Supplies Initiative
Serving eligible Minnesota schools located outside the 7-county Twin Cities Metropolitan Area, our Outstate Supplies Initiative provides free school supplies to students in rural communities through pre-packaged boxes filled with essential classroom materials. Supply boxes are customized to meet the needs for both elementary and secondary classrooms and are delivered to schools beginning in early fall. During the initial Outstate Supplies Initiative campaign in fall 2018, 224 boxes were delivered to 22 schools, impacting over 6,000 students with free school supplies.
The Caring Tree Program
Through partnerships with Minnesota social service agencies, The Caring Tree Program provides free school supplies to students who engage in opportunities provided through these organizations. Agencies that are based in Minnesota and operate as a 501 (c)(3) designated organization may submit an application to obtain free school supplies as part of their own effort to support student success in the classroom. In 2018, The Caring Tree Program partnered with 16 organizations, providing school supplies to approximately 1,125 Minnesota students. To learn more and apply, email Maia at email@example.com.
